Alexander Rich is an American biologist and physiologist. He is William Thompson Sedgwick Professor of Biophysics at MIT and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Rich has received both a Bachelor's and a PhD degree from Harvard University. He is Linus Pauling's post-doctor alongside James Watson. During this time, he was a member of the RNA Tie Club, a social and discussion group that tackled questions about how DNA encodes proteins. He has over 600 publications bearing his name. Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Rich is the founder of Alkermes and has served as a director since 1987. Dr. Rich is co-chair of the board of directors of Repligen Corporation, a biopharmaceutical company. He is also a member of the board of directors of Profectus BioSciences, Inc. He has also served on the editorial boards of Genomics and the Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamism.
