He played football. Consensus American in 1981. Selected in the 1982 NFL Draft Second Round, Tippett played professionally for the New England Patriots throughout his professional career. Currently, he is the Executive Director of Community Affairs for the Patriots. He was honored at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
