She has made full-length sculptures and busts of famous political and historical figures, and her works are displayed in major museums across the United States. She receives prestigious commissions for monuments. Two statues of Samuel Adams were made by Whitney and are located in the National Statuary Hall Collection in Washington, DC and opposite the Faneuil Hall in Boston. She also created two monuments for Leif Erikson. She has produced works that explore her liberal views regarding abolition, women's rights and other social issues. Many prominent and historic men and women are represented in his sculptures, such as Harriet Beecher Stowe. She portrayed women living disruptive lives as sufferers, professional artists and non-traditional positions for women at the time, such as economists and masters Wellesley Alice Freeman Palmer President of the University.
