He is a world class second weight champion, having held the WBC featherweight belt from 1984 to 1987 and WBC super light titles twice from 1988 to 1997. He also challenged once for the unified WBC and IBF lightweight titles in 1990. In the region, he held the ABU featherweight titles and the Commonwealth of 1980 to 1982. Widely regarded as one of the greatest African boxers of all time, he is currently ranked by BoxRec as the 31st weight boxer of all time.
