Brendan Frederick Shanahan is a Canadian professional ice hockey executive and former player, currently president and acting governor of the Toronto Maple Leafs, previously director of player safety for the National Hockey League. Originally drafted by the New Jersey Devils for the second time overall in the 1987 NHL Draft, Shanahan played in the NHL alongside the New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues, Hartford Whalers, Detroit Red Wings and New York Rangers. While playing for the Red Wings, he won three Stanley Cup titles. In 2017, Shanahan was named one of the "100 greatest NHL players" in history.
