Dennis Brian Close, British first-class cricketer, the youngest ever to play Test cricket for England. He was chosen to play against New Zealand in July 1949, when he was 18 years old. Close has made 22 test matches for England, winning them seven times with six wins and one draw. Close has also led Yorkshire to four County Championship championships - England's top national cricket title. He went on to become the captain of Somerset, where he is widely credited with developing the district into a hard-working team and helping to train Viv Richards and Ian Botham as the successful players they were. During his cricket career, which spanned from 1948 until the 1977 season, Close was one of the most famous and charismatic cricketers. He scored nearly 35,000 points as a pitcher, including 52 centuries ago with the highest halftime score of 198. He also had 1,168 dribbles as a militant. .
