Clara Hughes is a Canadian cyclist and speed skater who has won numerous Olympic medals in both sports. Hughes won two bronze medals at the 1996 Summer Olympics and four medals at the three Winter Olympics. She is, along with Cindy Klassen, the Canadian with the most Olympic medals, with a total of six. Hughes is one of the few athletes to have competed in the Summer and Winter Olympics. Hughes was one of only five to finish on the glorious podium in both the winter and summer versions of the game, and the only one to win multiple medals in both. Hughes was the first Canadian woman to win a medal in road cycling at the Olympics, winning two medals at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Through her success in multiple sports and human endeavors Her religion, Hughes was named to the both for the Order of Manitoba and is an Officer of the Order of Canada.
