She began her long career as a singer, scoring success with the 1959 single “Don't You Know?”. In the late 1960s, she hosted her own talk show, Della, which ran for 197 episodes. Since 1975, she has also acted in films, starring alongside Redd Foxx in Harlem Nights, Martin Lawrence in A Thin Line Between Love and Hate, and Elliott Gould in Expectation of Mary. Reese went on to gain success in the religious drama Touch by an Angel, in which she played the role of Tess.
