Doug Church
Doug Church, is an American video game designer and producer. He attended MIT in the late 1980s, but left and went to work with Looking Glass Studios, where they produced mostly MS-DOS-based role-playing games including Ultima Underworld, Ultima Underworld II, System Shock. and Thief. In fact, his colleague Warren Spector claims that it was Church who originally coined the term “role-playing simulation”. Church later joined Eidos Interactive as CTO, lending programming and design expertise to several Ion Storm and Crystal Dynamics games, including design work. In 2005, he left Eidos to join Electronic Arts. In 2003, Church received a Community Contribution Award from the International Association of Game Developers, in part thanks to his work as co-chair of the IGDA Education Committee developing the relationship between game industry and academy.
