Fani Chalkia, also transcribed as Halkia or Khalkia, is a retired Greek athlete. Chalkia was born in Larissa and represents Olympiacos. She won the gold medal in the women's 400m at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. In the semifinals, Halkia set an Olympic record of 52.77 seconds. On August 16, 2008, during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, it was announced that she had tested positive for the banned substance methyltrienolone. Chalkia denied using any banned substances and asked to test her "B" sample, which was also positive the next day. On December 12, 2008, the IAAF announced that she would be banned from the sport for two years. On February 19, 2016, Fani Halkia was unanimously acquitted of all drug use charges. The Court of Appeal ruled that the former champion had become the victim of a series of drug preparations.
