She began her career as a model before starring in the short-lived ABC TV drama Paper Dolls in 1984, as well as the romantic comedy The Sure Thing. She is best known for her role as Paige Matheson in the CBS soap opera Knots Landing, for which she received two Soap Opera Digest awards. Sheridan later appeared in lead roles in numerous TV dramas and mini-series, including Lucky Chances, Virus, and The People Next Door. She has also appeared in the films Noises Off, Spy Hard, Beverly Hills Ninja, and Code Name: The Cleaner. From 2004 to 2009 Sheridan starred as Edie Britt in the ABC television series Desperate Housewives, she was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress - Series, Miniseries or Drama 2005. From Five from 2018 to 2019, she played the role of Alexis Carrington on the reboot of The CW's Dynasty.
