Norman Lesley Sloan Jr is an American college basketball player and coach. Sloan is originally from Indiana and plays college basketball and football at North Carolina State University. He began his career as a basketball coach several months after graduating from college in 1951, and was the head coach of men's basketball at Presbyterian College, Citadel, North Carolina State. University and twice at the University of Florida. In a 38-season career, Sloan was named coach of the year five times and won the 1974 national championship in North Carolina state, his alma mater. He was nicknamed "Stormin 'Norman" due to his fighting nature with the media, his player and his school principal, and his career as a college coach came to an end. In controversy when the Florida basketball program was investigated in 1989, although Sloan claims he was being treated unfairly.
