Winfield Scott "Scotty" Moore III is an American guitarist and sound engineer who founded the Blue Moon Boys in 1954, the Elvis Presley-backed group. He was a studio guitarist and toured for Presley from 1954 to 1968. Rock critic Dave Marsh notes Moore invented the powerful chord, on Elvis's 1957 hit "Jailhouse Rock", featuring Moore and drummer DJ Fontana, which followed, "of a swaying version of 'The Anvil Chorus' in the 1940s." Moore is ranked 29th on the list of top 100 guitarists. Rolling Stone Magazine of all time in 2011. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, the Musician Hall of Fame and the Museum of Musicians in 2007, and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame in 2015. Keith Richards, the Rolling Stones' lead guitarist, said of Moore: When I heard "Heartbreak Hotel", I knew what I wanted to do for a living. It was as easy as daytime. All I want to do in this world is be able to play and sound like Scotty Moore did.
