Sydney Cecil Newman, OC is a Canadian film and television producer who played a pioneering role in British television drama from the late 1950s to the late 1960s. After returning to Canada in 1970, Newman was appointed Interim Director of Radio-Canada's Radio Programs Department. Television Commission and subsequently head of the National Film Commission of Canada. He has also held senior positions at the Canadian Film Development Corporation and the Société Radio-Canada, and has served as an advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. During his stay in England in the 1950s and 1960s, he first worked with the Associated British Corporation, before joining the BBC in 1962, where he was theater director for both organizations.
