William Bestwick was an English cricketer who played for Derbyshire between 1898 and 1926. He was a moderately fast bowler who won more than 1,400 shots for the nut, including 10 in one. the match. Due to his extravagant personality and reckless demeanor, he is known as a "bad boy" in the cricket industry. Bestwick was born in Tag Hill, Heanor, Derbyshire, was the son of a miner and worked at Coppice Pit at the age of 11. He made his debut for the Derbyshire team in 1898, as a professional player despite still working in the mines during the winter. He was one of only two bowling runners to hit ten strokes in a single round for Derbyshire, a feat he achieved in June 1921, the other being five-time experimental cricketer Tommy Mitchell. He was a true tailor batsman who never averaged more than 8 with a club in a single season for Derbyshire, and not once had he hit twenty in two hundred and eighty games. His first failure at batting was equal to Eric Hollies between 1939 and 1954
