Gopal Chandra Bhattacharya est un entomologiste et naturaliste indien qui a passé la majeure partie de sa carrière à l'Institut Bose de Kolkata. Il n'a pas de diplôme universitaire complet. En 1981, l'Université de Calcutta lui a décerné un doctorat honorifique en sciences plusieurs mois avant sa mort. Plus tard, il a également publié des travaux sur la bioluminescence et d'autres sujets botaniques, mais son intérêt s'est progressivement tourné vers l'entomologie. Il est devenu un photographe expert et photographie une grande variété de fourmis, d'araignées, de petites chauves-souris et de têtards. Au total, il a publié 22 articles en anglais, y compris dans des revues comme le Natural History of the American Museum of Natural History.
