Harriet Ruth Harman is a British politician and lawyer, congressman from Camberwell and Peckham, formerly Peckham, since 1982. As a member of the Labor Party, she held various positions in Cabinet and Cabinet. Born in London to a doctor and lawyer, Harman trained privately at St Paul's School for Girls before studying politics at York University. After working for the Brent Law Center, she became a lawyer for the National Civil Liberties Council, a role she saw as contemptuous of the court after being sued by Michael Havers, a former attorney general. She successfully filed a lawsuit, Harman sued the UK to the European Court of Human Rights, where Havers was found to have violated his freedom of speech. In a 2014 BBC Newsnight interview, Harman said she "regretted" that NCCL was affiliated with the Pedophile Crime Advocacy for which in 1975 NCCL granted "affiliate" status.
