Michael James Hugh Alison is a British Conservative politician. Born in Margate, Kent, Alison attended Eton College; Wadham College, Oxford; and Ridley Hall, Cambridge. During the war he served in the Cold Field Guard. He was a Councilor to Kensington County Council from 1956 to 1959 and Foreign Affairs Research Officer in the Conservative Research Chamber from 1958 to 1964. He was a member of Congress for Barkston Ash in the 1964 general election until that constituency was abolished in the 1983 general election, then the Selby constituency replaced it, from 1983. until resigned in the 1997 general election. He held a variety of grassroots ministers positions under Margaret Thatcher, including as Private Secretary to Congress and Secretary of State. In the ten years starting in 1987, he was the second commissioner for the states of the Church.
