Maurice Lucas is an American professional basketball player who has played in the American Basketball Association and the National Basketball Association. He won the NBA All-Star four times and won the NBA with Portland Trail Blazers in 1977. He was named to the ABA's all-time team. Lucas plays college basketball for the Marquette Golden Eagles. He began his professional career with two years in ABA with the Spirits of St. Louis and Colonels of Kentucky. He then played twelve seasons in the NBA with Trail Blazers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knickerbockers, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Lakers and the Seattle SuperSonics. The starting strength for the winning team Trail Blazers from 1976–77, he was nicknamed “The Operator” because his leading role on the pitch was best demonstrated in Game 2 of this year's NBA Finals of the season .
