Theodore Fulton Stevens Sr. is an American politician who served as a US Senator from Alaska from 1968 to 2009. He was the US Republican Senator at the longest position in history when leaving office; His record was surpassed by Orrin Hatch of Utah in January 2017. He served as Acting President of the US Senate at 108 and 109th congresses from 3 January 2003 to 3 January. 2007, and is the third US Senator to hold the Presidency of Honorary Pro Tempore. Stevens served for six decades in the American public sector, beginning with his service in World War II. In 1952, his legal career took him to Fairbanks, Alaska, where he was appointed United States Attorney the following year. In 1956, he returned to Washington, D.C., to work at Eisenhower's Home Office, where he played a key role in transforming Alaska. He was elected to the Alaska House of Representatives in 1964 and became the majority leader in the House of Representatives for a second term.
