Thomas Francis McGuane III is an American writer. His work includes ten novels, short fiction and screenplays, as well as three anthologies of essays devoted to his life. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Literature, the National Horse Cutting Association Member Hall of Fame, and the Fly Fishing Hall of Fame. McGuane's early novels are known for their humorous appreciation of the irrational core of many human endeavors, mostly counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s. reflecting a growing devotion to family ties and relations with the natural world in the changing America West, primarily Montana, where he has been making his home since 1968, and where his last five novels and many of his essays were performed. He has three children, Annie, Maggie and Thomas.
