Arthur Buchwald is an American comedian best known for his column in the Washington Post. At the height of its popularity, it was published nationwide as a sponsored column in over 500 newspapers. His column is on political satire and commentary. Buchwald began writing as a paid journalist in Paris after World War II, where he wrote the restaurant and nightclub column, Paris After Dark, for the Paris Herald Tribune. He was part of the large American expat community at the time. After returning to the United States in 1962, he continued to publish his journals and books for the rest of his life. He received the 1982 Pulitzer Prize for Outstanding Commentary and, in 1991, was elected to the American Academy of Literature and Arts, among other awards.
