John Kitzhaber
John Albert Kitzhaber is an American physician and former politician. He is the longest-serving governor in Oregon history, serving as the 35th and 37th governors of Oregon, the only person to date serving non-consecutive terms. He is also the only governor of Oregon to resign over a scandal. He served two terms from 1995 to 2003, another full term from 2011 to 2015, and was sworn in for a fourth term on January 12, 2015. He resigned on February 18, 2015, with state and federal inquiries into criminal charges against him fiancé, Cylvia Hayes. A member of the Democratic Party, Kitzhaber has previously served in the Oregon House of Representatives and the Oregon Senate, including as Speaker of the Senate. He is also an emergency physician and has held the post of health care manager. Born in Colfax, Washington, Kitzhaber graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA, Ph.D. from the Oregon Health & Science University.
