Marcos Pontes
Marcos Cesar Pontes is an AEB pilot, engineer, astronaut and author of the Brazilian Air Force. He became the first South American and the first Portuguese speaker to enter space when he arrived at the International Space Station aboard the Soyuz TMA-8 on March 30, 2006. He was the only Brazilian to have entered space. completed NASA's astronaut training program, although he switched to training in Russia after NASA's space shuttle program crashed. Following Jair Bolsonaro's victory as Brazilian President in 2018, Pontes was officially appointed Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, a position he assumed a few days later.
