Sam Coslow is an American musician, singer, film producer, publisher and market analyst. Coslow was born in New York. He started writing songs as a teenager. He contributed songs to the Broadway Reforms, founded the Spier and Coslow music publishing companies with Larry Spier, and made a number of records as an artist. With the explosion of musicals in the late 1920s, Hollywood attracted a number of young aspiring musicians, and Coslow joined them in 1929. Coslow and his partner Larry Spier sold their publishing business to Paramount Pictures and Coslow became Paramount musicians. One of his first studio assignments was to score the 1930s film The Virtuous Sin. He has collaborated successfully with composer Arthur Johnston and together they have provided sheet music for a number of films, including Bing Crosby Vehicle. Coslow became a film producer in the 1940s and won the Oscar for Best Short Film with Heaven Music in 1943.
