Marion Eugénie Bauer is an American music writer, teacher, writer and critic. She played an active role in shaping American musical identity in the first half of the 20th century. As a composer, Bauer has written for piano, chamber ensemble, symphony orchestra, solo voice and vocal symphony. She is best known as a faculty member at New York University, where she taught musical history and composition from 1926 to 1951. In addition to her position at NYU, Bauer affiliated with Juilliard as a guest speaker from 1940 until her death in 1955. Bauer also wrote extensively about music: she was editor of The Theater Leader is based in Chicago and is also the author and co-author of several books including his 1933 text of 20th Century Music.
