Sir Frank Chalton Francis is an English academic librarian. Much of his professional life has been spent in the British Museum, first as assistant manager of the printed book division, then as museum secretary, book manager and from 1959 to 1968, director and the main librarian of the museum. As director, Francis worked on the modernization and expansion of the museum, and his ideas contributed to the establishment of a separate British Library after his retirement. He is a renowned writer, teaching on the subject at University College London, as secretary and later as president of the Bibliographic Society. He was one of the pioneers of computer bibliographic writing for libraries.
