Gordon William Prange is the author of several historical WWII manuscripts published by his colleagues after his death in 1980. Prange was professor of history at the University of Maryland from 1937 to 1980 with 9 years in the military . served in the United States Navy during World War II and in the Japanese Army after the war, when he was the chief historian of General Douglas MacArthur's staff. It was about time that Prange collected documents and interviewed many Japanese military officers, enlisted servicemen and civilians, information that was then used in his writing. Some of the books became New York Times bestsellers, including At Dawn We Slept, The Untold Story of Pearl Harbor, and Miracle at Midway. Prange's 1963 Torah! Tora!
