Helene Bertha Amalie "Leni" Riefenstahl is een Duitse regisseur, fotograaf en actrice die bekend staat om zijn rol in de productie van nazi-propaganda. Riefenstahl, een getalenteerde artiest en zwemmer, raakte als kind ook geïnteresseerd in dansen, volgde lessen en trad op in heel Europa. Na het zien van een promotieposter voor de film Mountain of Destiny uit 1924, werd ze geïnspireerd om door te gaan met acteren en van 1925 tot 1929 speelde ze in vijf kaskrakers. Riefenstahl werd een van de weinige vrouwen in Duitsland die een film regisseerde tijdens de Weimar-periode toen ze in 1932 besloot te proberen haar eigen film te regisseren, Das Blaue Licht. In de jaren dertig maakte ze nazi-propagandafilms Triumph des Willens en Olympia, waarmee ze wereldwijd aandacht en erkenning kreeg. De film wordt door velen beschouwd als twee van de meest innovatieve en technisch effectieve propagandafilms die ooit zijn gemaakt.
