Mars Williams is een Amerikaanse jazz- en rocksaxofonist. Door zijn trompetspelende vader blootgesteld aan bigband en dixielandjazz, speelde Williams tien jaar klassieke klarinet, waarna hij in zijn laatste jaar van de middelbare school overstapte naar saxofoon, daarbij verwijzend naar de invloed van Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane en Charlie Parker. Hij ging naar De Paul University en later naar de Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians, waar hij studeerde bij de oprichters Anthony Braxton en Roscoe Mitchell. In 2004 werd hij door het Moers Festival geselecteerd als hun artiest. Williams is een muzikant, orkestrator en arrangeur die heeft gespeeld met The Waitresses en The Psychedelic Furs. Hij zou in 1983 slechts een maand met The Furs in Australië touren, omdat de toenmalige saxofonist Gary Windo de reis niet kon maken.
