Walter Seymour Allward is a Canadian monument sculptor best known for the Canadian National Monument at Vimy. He has been widely praised for his "original sense of spatial arrangement, mastery of classical form, and superb craftsmanship". Allward's heroic monument in 1917, the Bell Telephone Monument, is considered the best example of his early works. This made the sculptor famous and caused Allward to later create the National Monument of Canada at Vimy in France, his most famous work. Some of the sculptor's works were also acquired by the National Gallery in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Allward has been described as "possibly the most important monument sculptor in Canada during the first third of the century".
