Quicksand

Quicksand is a colloid consisting of fine granular material and water. Quicksand forms in saturated loose sand when the sand is suddenly agitated. When water in the sand cannot escape, it creates a liquefied soil that loses strength and cannot support weight. Quicksand can form in standing water or in upward flowing water. In the case of upward flowing water, forces oppose the force of gravity and suspend the soil particles. The saturated sediment may appear quite solid until a sudden change in pressure or shock initiates liquefaction. This causes the sand to form a suspension and lose strength. The cushioning of water gives quicksand, and other liquefied sediments, a spongy, fluid-like texture. Objects in liquefied sand sink to the level at which the weight of the object is equal to the weight of the displaced soil/water mix and the submerged object floats due to its buoyancy. Soil liquefaction occurs in saturated soil when it is shaken by an earthquake or similar forces.

Over Quicksand

A normal student from Stockholm finds herself on trial for murder after a mass shooting takes place at her prep school.

Prestaties van Quicksand

The Swedish series is based on Malin Persson Giolito's book of the same English title. In Swedish, it is called Störst av allt.

Top feiten die je niet wist over Quicksand

Bulldust - Bulldust or bull dust is a fine red aeolian dust which is especially common in the Australian Outback. It is formed from dry particles which measure less than 2 microns and so form a choking cloud when disturbed.. Dry quicksand - Dry quicksand is loose sand whose bulk density is reduced by blowing air through it and which yields easily to weight or pressure. It acts similarly to normal quicksand, but it does not contain any water and does not operate on the same principle. Dry quicksand is an example of a granular material.. Grain entrapment - Grain entrapment, or grain engulfment, occurs when a person becomes submerged in grain and cannot get out without assistance.. Quick condition - The quick condition of soil is the condition when the upward water pressure gradient and water flow reduce the effective stress, i.e., cohesiveness of the soil. Sandy soils may lose their shear strength, and the soil may behave as a fluid‌. Cohesive soils may produce cracks with water seepage.. Sapric - In the World Reference Base for Soil Resources and similar soil classification systems, a sapric is a subtype of a histosol where virtually all of the organic material has undergone sufficient decomposition to prevent the identification of plant parts.. Tar pit - A tar pit, or more accurately an asphalt pit or asphalt lake, is the result of a type of petroleum seep where subterranean bitumen leaks to the surface creating a large area of natural asphalt.. Geological hazards.. Sand.. Sediments.. Soil mechanics.
