Ada Lovelace
Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace, is an English mathematician and writer best known for her work on Charles Babbage's mechanical multi-function computer project, the Analytical Engine. She was the first to realize that this machine had applications beyond simple computation and published the first algorithm performed by such a machine. As a result, she is often considered one of the first computer programmers. Ada Byron is the only daughter of the poets Lord Byron and Lady Byron. All of Byron's other children were born out of wedlock with other women. Byron separated from his wife a month after Ada was born and left the UK forever four months later. He remembers the breakup in an opening poem, "Does your face look like your mother's face being my beautiful child! ADA! The only daughter of the house and of my heart?" ". He died in Greece when Ada was 8 years old.
