Alberto Tomba is a former alpine ski racer at the World Cup in Italy. He was the dominant technical snowboarder of the late 1980s and 1990s. At 182cm and 90kg, his strong build contrasts with the lighter, traditional technical skiers. who prefer agility over muscle. Tomba was able to take advantage of the advent of spring-loaded ski gates that replaced solid, old-fashioned gates in the early 1980s by using its power to maintain a faster track, more direct through the slides. Tomba has won three Olympic gold medals, two world championships and nine World Cup trophies: four slalom titles, four giant slalom titles, and one final title. He was known as Tomba la Bomba.
