Aleksandar Srnec
Aleksandar Srnec is a Croatian artist. He is best known for his avant-garde designs and his art of kinetics and lights. Srnec was one of the founding members of the Exat 51 group with active membership from 1950 to 1956 including the architects Vjenceslav Richter, Bernardo Bernardi, Zdravko Bregovac, Božidar Rašica and Vladimir Zaharović and the painters. Vlado Kristl and Ivan Picelj. He created abstract art based on the use of geometric shapes. In 1953, he designed the first kinetic object called the Space Modulator, while in 1956 he began experimenting with motion sculptures and reliefs. During the 1960s, Srnec participated in New Trend exhibitions. From 1962 he participated in experiments on luminescent plastics, for example Luminoplastic I, and from 1968 he began to do "ambient art". His work, Bright Space, displayed in 1967 at the SC Gallery, Zagreb, is the first glowing plastic object / atmosphere of Croatian art.
