Alexander Alekhine
Alexander Alekhine is a Russian and French chess player and fourth world chess champion, a title he has held for two dynasties. At the age of 22, Alekhine is already one of the strongest chess players in the world. During the 1920s, he won almost every tournament he played. In 1921, Alekhine left Soviet Russia and emigrated to France, the country he represented after 1925. In 1927, he became the fourth world chess champion by beating José Raúl Capablanca. In the early 1930s, Alekhine dominated tournaments and won the first two tournaments by a large margin. He also played the first match for France in the five Chess Olympics, winning individual awards in each. Alekhine offered Capablanca revenge under the same strict conditions that Capablanca had set for him, and the negotiations had dragged on for years without much progress. Meanwhile, Alekhine easily defended his title against Efim Bogoljubov in 1929 and 1934.
