Alvin Carl Plantinga is an American analytical philosopher who works primarily in the fields of religious philosophy, epistemology, and logic. From 1963 to 1982, Plantinga taught at Calvin University before accepting his appointment as John A. O'Brien Professor of philosophy at the University of Notre Dame. Then he returned to Calvin University to become the first to hold the Jellema Chair of Philosophy. The eminent Christian philosopher, Plantinga was president of the Association of Christian Philosophers from 1983 to 1986. He taught twice at Gifford and was described by Time magazine as "The Philosopher. Leading American Orthodox Protestants of God ". William Lane Craig wrote in his book Reasonable Faith that he considered Plantinga the greatest Christian philosopher alive. In 2014, Plantinga was the 30th most cited contemporary author in the Stanford Philosopher's Dictionary.
