Anna Maria van Giersbergen, known by her stage name Anneke van Giersbergen, is a Dutch singer, songwriter, guitarist and pianist known worldwide as the lead singer and musician of the Dutch group The Gathering, from 1994 to 2007. She also had a solo career. The project was originally called Agua de Annique, but has now moved to its own name. As Arjen's regular contributor, Anthony Lucassen, she portrayed the main characters on the albums Into the Electric Castle, 01011001, and The Theater Equation from his Ayreon project. In 2014, they collaborated on a project called The Gentle Storm, producing The Diary album released in 2015. Since 2016, she formed the new group VUUR with members of the live band The Gentle Storm and her own solo group. , to focus on the heavier aspects of their music.
