William Marvin Whittington is an American driver from Lubbock, Texas, who won the 24 Hours of Le Mans Championship in 1979 with his brother Don Whittington and Klaus Ludwig in a Porsche 935. German professional Klaus Ludwig, formerly Le Mans Champion and elsewhere, having done most of the racing in heavy rain, as the brothers had no real racing experience until the late 1970s. Bill's brother Dale also competes in open wheel races. With Randy Lanier, they owned the Blue Thunder team in 1984, along with Marty Hinze. Bill also raced in Indianapolis 500 five times with a better performance than 14th in 1985. Whittington ran two NASCAR Winston Cups starting in 1980, taking eighth in his debut at Riverside International Raceway, then ranked 32nd at the Daytona 500. Team Whittington flew aircraft. before having cars, Bill won races at Reno from 1978 to 1983 and owned the Road Atlanta racetrack.
