She won the silver medal in the 800 meters at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow in 2013. She also represented the United States at the 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 1,500 meters. On February 7, 2015, she set a world record for distance relay content at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. In 2015, created the Big Bear Watch Club and recruited its first athlete, Boris Berian. In 2016, Martinez entered the US Olympic team to compete at a distance of 1,500 meters after beating Amanda Eccleston 0.03 seconds. Martinez teamed up for the University of California, Riverside, finishing runner-up at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Athletics and Athletics Championship at 1,500 meters. She attended Rancho Cucamonga High School, graduating in 2005. She is Mexican American.
