John Byron Nelson Jr was an American professional golfer from 1935 to 1946, considered by many to be one of the greatest golfers of all time. Nelson and two other legendary champions of the time are Ben Hogan and Sam Snead, born in 1912 7 months apart. Although he won numerous tournaments during his relatively short career, he is often remembered today for having achieved 11 consecutive victories and 18 in total in 1945. retire at 34 to become the owner of the farm, then become a commentator and give his name to the HP Byron Nelson Championship, the first PGA Tour event named in honor of a professional golfer. As a former Masters champion, he continued to play in this annual tournament, reaching the top 10 six times between 1947 and 1955 and finishing 15th in 1965
