Charlie Coles is an American college basketball coach and former head coach of the men's basketball team at the University of Miami and Central Michigan University. He was born Charles Leroy Coles in Springfield, Ohio and then moved with his grandparents to Yellow Springs, Ohio, where he attended Bryan High School. He leads the state in scores as a senior, averaging 42.1 points per game, of which a game was 65 points, and graduated in 1959. His No.33 is now retired by Yellow High School. Springs in a ceremony Coles attended in 2000. He then went to the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio, where he excelled again in basketball from 1962 to 1965. He averaged 15.4 points per game in his Miami career, shot 45.8% from the field and 80.2% from the free-throw.
