Claude Stanley Choules was a British-born soldier from Perth, Western Australia, at the time of his death he was the most senior soldier in World War I from England, having served in the Navy. Royal from 1915 to 1926. After emigrating to Australia, he served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1926 to 1956 as Chief of Staff of Petty and became an Australian citizen. He was the last surviving military witness in the sinking of the German fleet at the Scapa Stream in 1919 and the last living veteran to have served in both world wars. At the time of his death, he was the third oldest known military veteran in the world and the oldest known living man in Australia. He is the seventh longest living man in the world. Choules became the oldest man born in the United Kingdom after the death of Stanley Lucas on June 21, 2010. Choules died at the age of 110 years and 63 days.
