Clement Clarke Moore
Clement Clarke Moore is an American writer and professor of Eastern and Greek literature, as well as in theology and Bible studies, at the Theological Seminary of the Protestant New York Church. The seminar was developed on the land donated by Moore and it continues at this site on 9th Avenue between 20th Street and 21st Street, in an area known as Chelsea Square. Moore's relationship with the seminary continued for more than 25 years. Moore profited from a considerable fortune by subdividing and developing other parts of his large estate in what is known as the residential district of Chelsea. Before that, the urbanization part of the city ended at Houston Street on the island of Manhattan. For 10 years, Moore was also a member of the board of directors of the New York Institute of the Blind. He is best recognized and known as the author of the Christmas poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas", first published anonymously in 1823
