Craig S. Harris is a jazz trombonist who started working with Sun Ra in 1976. He has also worked with Abdullah Ibrahim, David Murray, Lester Bowie, Cecil Taylor, Sam Rivers, Muhal Richard Abrams and Charlie Haden. He has been recording since 1983 as team leader of India Navigation, Soul Note and JMT. For the last part, he recorded with two groups. The Tailgaters Tails is a quintet featuring clarinetist Don Byron, trumpeter Eddie Allen, double bass Anthony Cox and Pheeroan akLaff drums. His Grand Cold Sweat Orchestra is a tribute to the music of James Brown. He graduated from the Music Program at the State University of New York at Old Westbury and was influenced by founder and director Makanda Ken McIntyre. Harris's move to New York in 1978 established him with trombonist Ray Anderson, Joseph Bowie and George Lewis. He performed for the first time with another of his teachers at SUNY, the male saxophonist Pat Patrick, at Sun Ra's Arkestra for two years.
