Daniel Payne
Daniel Alexander Payne is an American bishop, educator, college administrator, and author. As the principal fixer of the African Episcopal Church, Payne emphasizes the education and preparation of pastors, while bringing more order to the church, becoming the sixth bishop and serving for over four decades and becoming one of the founders of Wilberforce University of Ohio in 1856. In 1863, the AME Church acquired the college and chose Payne to lead it; he became the first African-American president of a college in the United States and held that position until 1877.
