Deborah Sampson Gannett, also known as Deborah Sampson, is a Massachusetts woman who disguised herself as a man to serve in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. She is one of the few women with documented military combat experience in this war. She served 17 months in the Army as Uxbridge's "Robert Shirtliff", Mass., Wounded in 1782, and was honored to be released to West Point, New York in 1783.
