Donald Andrew Hall Jr. is an American poet, writer, editor, and critic. He is the author of over 50 books from different genres of children's literature, biographies, memoirs, essays and includes 22 volumes of poetry. Hall is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy, Harvard and Oxford. Early in his career, he became the senior poetry editor for The Paris Review, the quarterly literary magazine, and has been known to interview poets and other writers about their profession. On June 14, 2006, Hall was named the 14th Library of Congress Poetry Consultant. He is considered a "rural poet with words of the plain", and it is said that in his writings he "explores the aspiration of a more lavish past and reflects [a] devotion. perpetual glass for nature ". Hall is respected for his academic work, has taught at Stanford University, Bennington College and the University of Michigan, and has made significant contributions to research and the art of writing.
