From a contradictory and unfortunate childhood, Parker rose to acclaim, both for literary work published in magazines such as The New Yorker and a founding member of the Algonquin Round Table. After the relationship broke down, Parker went to Hollywood to pursue a job as a screenwriter. Her success there, including two Oscar nominations, were limited when her involvement in left-wing politics left her blacklisted in Hollywood. Giving up her own talents, she valued her reputation as a "wise man". However, his literary output and reputation for nimbleness persisted.
