Edith Sitwell
Dame Edith Louisa Sitwell is an English poet and critic and the oldest of the three literary Sitwells. She reacts badly to her eccentric and unloving parents and lives most of her life with her butler. She has never been married but is deeply attached to the Russian painter Pavel Tchelitchew, and her house is always open to the poetic circle of London, whom she is very generous and helpful. Sitwell has published poetry continuously since 1913, some of which was abstract and converted to music. With her impressive style and exotic outfits, she is sometimes criticized for being a stylist, but her work is praised for her solid technique and meticulous craftsmanship. She received the Benson Medal.
